Hillard "Poppy" Blankenship

Blankenship, Hillard (Poppy), 79, of Rocky Gap, VA, formerly of Bland, VA, passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at Princeton Community Hospital after a long illness. He was born May 9, 1939 in Panther, WV, the son of the late Rathmer and Noah Coleman Blankenship. Hillard was a foreman for Eskay Company before he retired and was of the Church of God faith. In addition to his parents, Hillard was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Blankenship, and daughter, Pansy Blankenship; two Brothers, Jessie Blankenship, and Ralph Blankenship.
Those left to cherish Hillard’s memory are his two daughters, Carolyn Blankenship of the home, and Edith Walker and husband, Harold, of Bland, VA; four sisters, Rosa Thompson and husband, Glen, of Abingdon, VA, Lona King and husband, Willie, of New Jersey, Lena Jackson and husband, Billy, of Panther, WV, and Anna Merced and husband, Ray, of Tennessee; two grandchildren, Michael Walker and wife, Anna, of Bland, VA, and Brittany McGlothlin and husband, Stephen, of Bland, VA; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Walker, Sydney Walker, Brayden Lowe, all of Bland, VA.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV with the Rev. Robbie Barrett officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery on Route 20 with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at the funeral home.
